St Mary’s Parish Pastoral Council. Canon 536 of the Code of Canon Law states Parish Pastoral Councils are recognised bodies within the church, concerned with the pastoral activities of parish life. The Pastoral Council is composed of members of the laity together with the parish priest and parish staff responsible for pastoral care; their task is to promote pastoral action in the parish. The Parish Pastoral Council is concerned with issues that affect the lives of parishioners rather than the administration or financial management of the parish. To this end we attempt to have links with as many parish groups as possible. We have helped in the establishment of a Parish Child Protection policy in line with Diocesan guidelines. Many areas are suggested in which the pastoral council may be involved. These include:
